Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who provides referrals?

At Calder Psychology, we receive referrals from GP’s, Paediatricians, Psychiatrists, other allied health professionals, government agencies and other community organisations.

2

How do I get a referral?

We will offer advice about your eligibility to receive financial support including a Medicare rebate. Individuals without referrals are welcome to contact us on:

0401 797 097 or email reception@calderpsychology.com

to arrange an appointment.

3

What if I am not eligible?

You do not need a referral to book an appointment with us. If you have Private Health Insurance, you may be entitled to a rebate through your provider. We recommend you check with your provider prior to your appointment. If you choose not to use Medicare or a private health fund you can see a Clinician without a referral.

Mental Health Care Plan

Prior to your appointment with Calder Psychology, we recommend seeing your GP to assess your eligibility for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This can also be referred to as Mental Health Treatment plan.

If a MHCP and referral is in place, Medicare will currently rebate up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The out of pocket expense per session is between $100-$140.

Your visit to your GP involves: assessment, identifying needs, setting and agreeing on management goals, identifying any action to be taken, selecting appropriate treatment options, and arranging ongoing management and documentation of this plan. Your doctor will lodge the GP Mental Health Treatment Plan with Medicare. This lodgement opens your account with Medicare for 10 individual sessions & 10 group sessions. A review of a GP Mental Health Care Plan will take place after 6 sessions or when treatment is finished.

In order for us to process your rebate, we require a copy of your MHCP and referral from your GP. You can ask your GP to send the referral and MHCP directly to us, you can email us directly or bring it in with you on the day of your appointment.

Assessment for Autism

You or your child may be referred to us by a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. If your child is being referred for an Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Assessment, you may be able to claim up to 4 Medicare rebate sessions under the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) Plan. This is only available from Paediatricians and Psychiatrists.
